If Great Resignation makes you think about taking on some errands, Glassdoor may be able to help you choose your next party. Its annual study of the 100 Best Places to Work in 2022 has gained press attention. Does it top the list? Nvidia.

Glassdoor’s rankings are based on feedback from current and former employees who have posted anonymous reviews on its site over the past year. The rating numbers that Glassdoor publishes are quite limited, so you’ll see a lot of the same overall numerical results. When pressed to see how Glassdoor then ranks companies with the same scores, it says it uses a “Proprietary Ranking Algorithm”.

Well, this is a bit ambiguous, but the algorithm calculates the ranking based not only on the total numbers of employees but also across many sub-ranks, including satisfaction, CEO leadership, career opportunities, compensation and benefits, among others. The list is occupied by the 100 companies with the best ratings.

Among the top 100 largest companies, Nvidia took the winning spot from Bain & Company, which it held last year. Glassdoor also reported 36 newcomers to the Top 100 — among them several new technology companies, including electric car maker Rivian and help desk software developer ServiceNow. In all, the list included 40 technology companies with well-known names such as Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft and Zoom. If you’re worried about tying your wagon to a new arrival, Nvidia has been number one on the list for the past eight years, while Apple and Google have been there for the past 14 years.

Among the companies with lower rankings this year from 2021 were some notable names, including Meta, which has fallen from 11th to 47th this year – presumably due to all the public scrutiny and negative press it has suffered in the past. The year 2021. The Blue Ribbon loser, hitting #22 in 2021 but face-implanting in 2022, last hitting 100. Then again, he made the list, so don’t count it in your job search.

What about small businesses and geography?

All names so far have been big companies. But along with the top 100 giant employers, Glassdoor also came up with a list of the 50 best small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), which you define as companies with fewer than 1,000 employees.

At the top of this indicator is KlientBoost, a digital marketing consultancy. Other tech names you may know featured on the SMB list are Lucid Software (14th), Grammarly (27th), Domo (42nd), and Sprout Social (44th).

Although the hybrid job craze makes geography much less important, Glassdoor also reviewed the data to come up with the four best metro areas to work in. At the top of that list was Surprise San Francisco. 30 of the top 100 companies are headquartered there. After that came San Francisco with nine, Los Angeles with eight (these employees shouldn’t care about traffic), and New York City with seven.

If you’re looking to slice and slice this data even further, Glassdoor has filters on its site that analyze its results across the best CEOs, jobs in general, and the highest paying jobs. Similar studies will appear for other countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom and a number of European Union countries.
