Matt Eastwood joined McCann Health as global chief creative officer in January 2019. Matt was described by Campaign UK magazine as a “unicorn” in the communications industry. He has overseen some of the most creative and outstanding projects in advertising today.

His career has spanned across many agencies, disciplines, and countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Throughout his career, Matt has received numerous accolades and accolades, including being named Creative Influencer of the Year 2020. A highly award-winning creative with an international sensibility, he lives life as a New Yorker.

We spoke with Matt for our new Checkup series, where we speak with leaders in healthcare marketing.


Matt, tell us…

Where you grew up and where you live now.

I grew up in Perth in Western Australia, which is known as one of the most isolated cities in the world. Now I reside in New York. I normally live in Manhattan but moved to our home on Copake Lake at the start of the pandemic.

How you got into healthcare marketing for the first time, and what drew you to it.

Although I’ve spent most of my career in consumer advertising, I’ve been working on the edges of healthcare for years. During my time at JWT, I worked on a Northwell Health project (the largest hospital group in the Northeast) called “The Fin”. We made an amphibious prosthetic leg for a veteran. Seeing the impact it had made in life drew me toward doing more work in healthcare. So, when the CEO of McCann Health approached me to take on the global CCO role, I decided to take a chance and leap into the unknown.
